The Penniman Papers: A Georgia Family in the Civil War

edited by O.J. Hickox, Jr.

Wm. Frederick Penniman was the son of a Yankee family which migrated to Camden County Georgia in 1856; he subsequently served with the 4th Ga Cavalry in various skirmishes and two major battles, Olustee in Northern Florida and the defense of Atlanta.

A generation after the war, Penniman wrote this memoir which is edited for publication by O.J.Hickox, USN ret., a native of SE Georgia.

A bonus feature is the surviving 8 month-long diary across 1864 kept by Penniman's grandmother, Julia Johnson Fisher, a portrait of 'hard times' in rural Georgia.
